The Lord’s Supper, or Communion, is celebrated in weekly worship. It is open to all who are followers of Jesus Christ. The practice of Holy Communion has become the central element of worship within the Disciples tradition.
Our open invitation to receive communion is a welcoming invitation to Christ’s table. We do not judge you, deny you or in any way interfere with your personal relationship with Christ and readiness to receive His grace through the table.
The sharing of communion comes from many traditions within the church. Our communion table is Christ’s table, not a Midway Hills Christian Church members table. When we break the bread and pour the cup it is as much for you, as it is for all.
Baptism, as a gift of grace, received by faith, expresses its meaning in a variety of images: new birth; a washing with water; a cleansing from sin; a sign of God’s forgiving grace and the power of new life. The meaning of baptism is grounded in God’s redemptive action in Christ and it incorporates the believer in the community in the body of Christ.
The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and Midway Hills Christian Church baptizes according to the New Testament tradition – by immersion.
We believe that baptism symbolizes the death and burial of the old self of the repentant believer, and the joyous birth of a brand new being in Christ.
We invite all children who are fifth grade and older to participate in a six-week Pastor’s Class in preparation for baptism. If you have a child who is ready for baptism, please contact our pastor, Arthur Stewart(email link) to set up an appointment to meet and get you started!
When an adult walks forward to join Midway Hills Christian Church, making his or her first time profession of faith in Jesus Christ and has not been baptized and wishes to be, we will have you meet with our pastor to decide on a time for your baptism.
The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) is accepting of all forms of baptism and does not require any transferring members to be baptized again.
Is it possible for an unbaptized believer to be saved? Yes, definitely. Should every believer be baptized? Yes, definitely.”
