On September 1, I will have been the senior minister here at MHCC for five years. It’s been loads of fun, an amazing challenge, and I am blessed to be part of this active and engaging community of faith. Part of what has helped me navigate senior ministry (and honestly, just, full-time ministry) has been being part of the Bethany Ecumenical Fellows, which targets young clergy in their first call to help them process, grow and move into the challenges that this calling has. I have two more retreats left before I “graduate” — September in Atlanta, and in the spring in Nashville. I love the work they do, and I am blessed to be a part of it.
You may be asking why I’m bringing this up in regards to my anniversary here. I’ll tell you: if you’re feeling compelled to celebrate my anniversary here (or my 33rd birthday), would you consider making a gift in my honor to the Bethany Fellows? I have made it past the five-year mark, which is when 80% of clergy under 40 quit the church to never return. So I think we can all celebrate that together.
I look forward to the next five years and the great work we will do together. I’ll see you on September 3, if not before.
