Midway Hills Christian Church is a Shalom Congregation – a community of Christians, within the Disciples of Christ faith, seeking to be a peaceful people, devoted to bringing God’s peace and justice whenever possible. Being a Shalom Congregation influences every aspect of our church.
We are unified in our love for Jesus Christ and his teachings, with a passion for cooperative and interfaith ministries. We understand biblical shalom as a call to act for justice and to respect God’s creation. We cherish the gift of life and support each other in our spiritual journey. We emphasize a belief system rooted in scripture, but resting on individual responsibility in faith matters. We believe that the ultimate message of Jesus Christ is embodied in a passion for justice that reaches to the oppressed and disenfranchised, and a strong sense of inclusion that validates the ultimate worth of every individual as loved by God.
Grounded in worship, Bible study, and prayer, we seek to be instruments of God’s healing through efforts to eliminate poverty, injustice, hunger, and social ills that afflict our community locally and globally.
Verses – What the Bible Tells Us:
- Matthew 5:9 Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God.
Ephesians 2:13-18 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. For he is our peace; in his flesh he has made both groups into one and has broken down the dividing wall, that is, the hostility between us. He has abolished the law with its commandments and ordinances, so that he might create in himself one new humanity in place of the two, thus making peace, and might reconcile both groups to God in one body through the cross, thus putting to death that hostility through it. So he came and proclaimed peace to you who were far off and peace to those who were near; Father.
- Isaiah 54:9-10 This is like the days of Noah to me: Just as I swore that the waters of Noah would never again go over the earth, so I have sworn that I will not be angry with you and will not rebuke you. For the mountains may depart and the hills be removed, but my steadfast love shall not depart from you, and my covenant of peace shall not be removed, says the LORD, who has compassion on you.
- John 14:27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not let them be afraid.
Colossians 2:12-17 As God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience. Bear with one another and, if anyone has a complaint against another, forgive each other; just as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in the one body. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly; teach and admonish one another in all wisdom; and with gratitude in your hearts sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs to God. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
