Last month, I offered words of gratitude for the many people who helped make Vacation Church School such a great experience for our children. This month there are a couple of other groups that I’d like to highlight for their faithful service.
Last week Zane Ridings, Sheryll Barker, and Stephen Studnicka provided leadership for five of our youth as they traveled to the Lower Rio Grande Valley to participate in a variety of mission and learning experiences. Zane provided photos and a description of those activities in last week’s newsletter, and I’m sure you were as impressed as I was at the variety of experiences that they had. Activities such as these don’t happen unless adult members are willing to give their time and energy. Thank you, Sheryll and Stephen! And thank you Zane, for not only putting the plan together and providing a pastoral presence during the trip but also for stepping into the pulpit after such a demanding week. Thanks are also due to Samantha Godinez, Aria & Jason Asberry, and Chris & Anthony Holmgren for representing MHCC’s heart for God’s wonderfully created world!
The Capital Campaign Committee and those who helped them conduct their work deserve a big thank you, too. Paul Johnson served as chair of the committee that included Linda Wassenich, James Hope, John Leslie, Trisha Johnson, and Don Manworren. Thanks are also due to those who supported the committee’s work with creative publicity efforts and bookkeeping; Rev. Arthur Stewart, Emily Adams, Mary Ann Viola, Kathy Leslie, and David Hammons. Not only did these faithful servants lead us to meet the goal that was needed to carry the loan on our facility’s improvements for another three years, we reached a stretch goal that will make significant payments on the principal over the next three years. This puts us in the position to continue the vital ministries of Midway Hills, and I take it as a sign that we are a thriving congregation with a passion for Doing Justice, Being Inclusive, and Embracing Diversity! Thank you, Capital Campaign Committee and all who contributed to the cause!
As I bring this to a close, I have a sense of anticipation and excitement as we move through the second half of 2016. With God’s guidance, I have no doubt that we will find new and exciting ways to live into God’s call to work for the flourishing of all!
