Dallas Mega March 2017

April 9, 2017 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

There’s a Place for You on the Bus!

Let us know if you would like a free ride to the Mega March on Sunday afternoon. We are partnering with Workers Defense Project in hopes of getting 52 people who want to go together. If we can get 52 people, a free bus will be available to leave the church parking lot at 1:30 following the luncheon and egg hunt.  Please let Robin Swindle or Martha Johnson know a.s.a.p. if you’d like a seat on the bus. We’ll let you know by Saturday if we acquired enough people for the free bus.

Press Release about Dallas Mega March 2017

DALLAS – An ethnically diverse coalition of faith and lay organization leaders, civic organizations, community activists and organizers across N. Texas are excited to announce the Dallas Mega March 2017 featuring national and local advocates and elected officials.

The Dallas Mega March 2017 will be April 9 from 2 – 4 p.m. and will begin at the Cathedral Shrine of the Virgin of Guadalupe, 2215 Ross Avenue, and will end with a rally at Dallas City Hall, 1500 Marilla Street.  The 2017 Dallas Mega March is centered on the themes of family, unity and empowerment. Participants are asked to carry American flags and wear red, white and blue in solidarity.

Organizers are calling for real immigration reform and an end to aggressive deportation efforts that have separated families, targeted DACA students and left our communities in fear. We are calling for an end to executive orders that have discriminated against our Muslim brothers and sisters based on their faith.  We are calling for an end to hate crimes and hate speech that have increased against Jewish and multiple other minorities since the election. We the People will join together and send a message that hate, intolerance and failure to respect the integrity and value of family has no place in our nation.  In April 2006, more than 500,000 marched in Dallas in what was the largest civil rights march in Texas history. Organizers are expecting at least 100,000 will attend this march.

The Dallas Mega March 2017, conceived by LULAC, is an inclusive event and open to members of all faiths, ethnicities and backgrounds who wish to participate.
