What to Do
- When Is Worship and Where Do I Go? Our Sunday Service starts at 11. Join us for Sunday School at 9:30 and stay for Coffee Fellowship immediately after the service. We are located at 11001 Midway Road, on the west side just north of Royal Lane. Once you enter, the sanctuary is to your left, the office is to the right, and our community hall is straight ahead. We have signage you can follow to find what you need.
- Where Do I Park? The entrance to our parking lot is the southern entrance off Midway (the one closer to Royal Lane), next to The da Vinci School. Park in the large lot off of the entrance.
- Which Entrance Do I Use? There are two entrances on the south facing side of our building (facing the large parking lot). Please walk up the sidewalk and use the glass doors to enter the church.
- What Should I Wear? If you are a spats-and-high-collar kind of person, you are welcome to come dressed to the nines. If you are a jeans and a t-shirt kind of person, you are welcome to come in what makes you comfortable. We do not care how you dress for worship; come as you are. Worship has a tendency to take people from Point A to Point B, so come as you are in spirit, but be ready to encounter the Divine.
- Are children welcome in worship? Absolutely! Children are invited to participate in as much of the service as they like. We have a space specifically set up for families and for children in the sanctuary. We also have a fully-staffed nursery, and a children’s class after the Children’s Moment in worship.
- How Do You Share Communion? We believe this time of remembrance and reconciliation is central to the Christian faith. We join together in a communion hymn, and once the story is retold at the Table, our Deacons will come to you and offer you communion. You are encouraged to spend this time in prayer and contemplation.
Who We Are
- Open Minded and Open Hearted Welcome to the church where you are encouraged to challenge and question ,learn and grow. It is a safe place where you can express and be yourself. We are justice forward, diverse, open & affirming.
- Disciples of Christ: Unity not Uniformity Disciples of Christ is a movement for wholeness in a fragmented world. We welcome all to the Table as God has welcomed us. We do this by celebrating communion every Sunday. We are called to study and read scripture for ourselves. Rather than having tests of faith and creedal statements, we critically and thoughtfully study scripture, taking into account the history and background – the context – in which it was written. We honor our heritage as a movement for Christian unity by cooperating and partnering with other faith communities to work for bringing about wholeness – healing and justice – in the world. We also honor the heritage of Christian unity by staying together in covenant as a witness to the world that even when we disagree we can still make room, welcoming all to the table as Christ has welcomed us.
- Traditional but Forward Thinking Often people wonder why “traditional” churches have songs that are so wordy. Each hymn is written much like a poem. Some are ancient and others were written in modern times. The gift that hymns bring to worship is a language rooted in the earliest days of the Church to express our gratitude, confess our relationship with God, and uplift all of the emotions and complexities of life.
